Low-Poly Female Character

Well. I haven't modeled in a bit. And had to get back into it. So I started modelling my girlfriend, based on a cartoony drawing I drew of her.

NHL 2004 Logo

NHL 2004 brings back so many memories. So I figured I'd make the logo.

NHL 2004 Gaming Rig

I've loved the game since it came out. Still feel it's the best as far as playability goes. So much fun was had, it's arcadey, yet still entertaining. When I sold it I never quite understood why I felt so empty, but soon realized the hole in my heart was size of a GameCube disc...

I found out a couple years back that there is quite a large modding community surrounding that game, in fact, they have a dedicated site and team that keeps it running and up to date.

I touched on modding it as well. And played it, quite a bit, had a blast. But in recent months, hit a snag when it wouldn't install on my PC. Tried numerous times, nothing. Listening through the soundtrack, recalling memories from the game, looking back at my childhood, I got the idea to bring this all back.

My plan is to get a PC running Windows XP, or just install it on a cheap machine, that is at least capable of running it (and the mods/higher quality graphics and adjustments) and then build a sort of NHL 04 Exclusive console. Basically take a PC, attach a keyboard on a sliding table top, that can tuck under a flatscreen monitor, with 2 PC game controllers running out the front of the setup. Almost looking like an arcade machine, it'd be able to run the game, and I could keep it up to date and store files on the hard drive, plus back up on an external.

My goal would be to have the playable game on this machine, completely recent as far as updates are concerned, boxed up in a easy to use setup, that I could design to fit the look of the game, paint it with NHL graphics and related art.

What a project it'd be. It'll be. I will do this.

Unity Adventures

I think I'm going to enjoy Unity. it's pretty fun to fool around in, and offers that instant gratification I really long for, that moment when I can put simple assets into an environment and fool around.

Halifax Metro Centre Project - Interior/Exterior Unity Project

After working on the interior of the Metro Centre for quite a while, and having a few things off as far as lining walls up and other structural inaccuracies, I decided it'd be a good idea to bring the interior model and exterior model together, and see if I can place one inside the other. That way I can try and line things up at least so they are physically possible, and then place the model inside UDK or Unity and walk a generic character around and see how everything looks.

This is going to be an adventure.

Halifax Metro Centre Interior [Rink]

I thought to myself, a while back, that I should make the interior of the Metro Centre, as it'd be a fun project, and I've modeled the exterior... ah what the hell. It's been quite an enjoyable build/learning experience so far.

What I've unwrapped so far. Main areas of signage/logos. (Ice, side ads, boards)

The angled aisle steps proved easier to put in than I thought. 4 angles, at 90 degrees total, each aisle was set in 22.5 degree increments. Haven't UV'd seats or aisles, still laying out everything to make sure it fits.

Added a few more sections of seating. 70k polys, total on this build, I thiiiink I can get the lower bowl under 200k, hopefully keep the whole model under 500k. :s

Added one section of seating, seats alone came in at 6902 polys (238 seats) ... oh how I wish it could be 6.9k even.

Purolator Van

I started this a while back, barely put any time into it as I had other school projects to work on. Now that I had a good 5 hours to work, I put that time into this, and got, well. What looks like a delivery truck.

Model A Day. [27-5-13]

I've been setting a goal for myself lately, to model, unwrap and texture some simple models every day, just to get in the hang of things, and to try and create a sort of workflow for painting textures. I've had to make a few objects for my still life scene I'm working on, and overall everything I make just adds to my archive of random objects.

Makeshift Bat [21-5-13]

I'm doing a bat swing animation with Beta, and I needed a bat to use for that. So I came up with this in a few minutes.

Post-Apocalyptic Bus WIP [12-5-13]

This underground transport, based off of this concept: http://digital-art-gallery.com/oid/0/936x585_561_Bus_2d_automotive_bus_post_apocalyptic_picture_image_digital_art.jpg
might appear on a reel of mine soon. I'm really looking into modeling more hard surface stuff that isn't so basic, some more interesting designs, that I can then go and work on my painting skills.

Maybe I'm Thinking Too Much [7-5-13]

I've realized just how easy animation can be when you are able to block out strong poses, and knock out 90% of the thinking early on. Another thing I noticed was that I tend to overshoot everything, whenever possible, try to exaggerate anticipation, as every action has something to lead into it, it never hurts to think of that with literally every action, be it the smallest wrist movement or a squat leading into a jump.
I've come to realize that cycles take like, 2 seconds to make, and forever to perfect, but are almost like one of those things you can do to fill time, or as a zen thing, where you lose yourself so easily in the task.
